What Would You Choose, Housing or Food?

During the holidays, many of us will be visiting with family and friends.  And for some us that means cleaning and preparing the house for the influx of people who will be sharing in each other’s company.  But sadly, for thousands of people across our service area, opening their home to loved ones isn’t so easy.

39% of those we serve report having to choose between paying for housing and paying for food.

That’s more than 68,000 people who, at least once in the past 12 months, have had to make a choice between two of life’s most basic needs.  But these decisions aren’t just tough during the holidays, when so much attention is put on spending time with loved ones and sharing a meal together. They are tough all year long.

7 days a week, 365 days a year, we are working with our partner agencies to help make these choices less frequent.  The support we receive from our donors and supporters allows us to provide them with food for the table so that they can use their resources to meet other needs, like housing.
