What is SNAP?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is the nation’s largest nutrition program and it helps Kentuckians put food on the table. For every meal provided by FAKH and fellow foodbanks, SNAP is able to provide nine meals to a neighbor facing hunger.
Changes to SNAP may affect you!
Changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1) went into effect for Kentucky on February 1, 2026. What this may mean for you:
New work requirements: Apply to Able-Bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWD).
Ages 18-64, No children under the age of 14.

Restrictions on non-citizen eligibility: H.R.1 ends eligibility for lawfully present refugees, asylees, and others, limiting SNAP to citizens, legal permanent residents (after a waiting period), certain Cuban and Haitian entrants, and lawfully residing Compacts of Free Association citizens.
Utility Deductions: SNAP allows households to deduct shelter expenses when determining their net income, which impacts their eligibility and monthly benefit amount. Households may include certain utility costs when calculating shelter expenses.
