Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland and Lincoln Trail District Health Department Partner to “Brush Away Hunger and Tooth Decay”

Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland and Lincoln Trail District Health Department Partner to “Brush Away Hunger and Tooth Decay”

(Elizabethtown, KY) Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH) is proud to partner with the Lincoln Trail District Health Department (LTDHD) for a Toothbrush Drive benefitting children who participate in the BackPack Program.

In our area, one in four children are at risk for hunger. There is also the concern of childhood tooth decay which is 5 times more common than asthma and 7 times more common than hay fever. In an effort to “Brush Away Hunger and Tooth Decay”, FAKH, LTDHD, and other local organizations are working together to collect individually wrapped, child sized toothbrushes that will be distributed to students across the area through the BackPack Program.  This program provides food to children who are at risk of going hungry on the weekend when school meals are not available. In addition to hunger, these children are also at increased risk for poor dental hygiene and tooth decay.

The Toothbrush Drive will run from October 3rd to November 4th and donations can be dropped at any of the following locations: NECCO, MOD Squad Teen Outreach, WQXE, Ladies Auxiliary, Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, and the Hardin County Extension Office. There will also be a Toothbrush Drive event at the Towne Mall Kroger on Friday, October 21st from 3:00PM-5:00PM where anyone is welcome to drop off toothbrushes as well.
