Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland says THANK YOU to Volunteers

Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH) would like to pass along a special THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered with us during 2016.  Your efforts to help us fight hunger made a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of struggling Kentuckians throughout our region!

For those who are not familiar with FAKH, we are a charitable Food Bank based out of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  We provide assistance to approximately 175,000 people each year through our partner network of 220 feeding programs in 42 central, south central, and western Kentucky counties.  These include the children, families, and seniors who are helped through our various programs, including the BackPack, Senior Box, and Food Pantry Programs.

None of this would be possible without the support and partnership we receive from our wonderful volunteers who travel from places all across our service area to join us at our Volunteer Center in Elizabethtown.  Below are some numbers that truly show just how much of an impact our volunteers made this past year:

  • 5,016 individual volunteers worked a total of 20,401 hours, the equivalent of almost 10 full time employees
  • 171,000 BackPack Bags were packed and distributed to the 35 counties on the program
  • 75,000 Senior Food Boxes were filled and distributed to the 42 counties we serve
  • 12,083,000 total meals were packed and distributed throughout our entire service area

Without our volunteers, none of this would be possible.  We truly appreciate all that they do to help those struggling with hunger.
