September is Hunger Action Month, a time when people all across the country will be taking a stand against hunger. This September, Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland is asking everyone to get involved and make a difference in the lives of the 1 in 6 neighbors struggling with hunger in central, south central and western Kentucky.
So stand up. Get involved. Take action. Here’s how:
- Volunteer: Come volunteer with us … from the Volunteer Center to food distributions at partner agencies, if you’ve never volunteered before, this is a great time to start. And while you’re volunteering, be sure to snap a couple photos and share them using the hashtags #HungerActionMonth #fighthunger @FeedingAmericaKentuckysHeartland and @FeedingAmerica
- Donate: It doesn’t take a lot of money to have a big impact, every $1 can provide 8 meals to someone in need. $120 will make sure a backpack filled with 14-17 kid-friendly food items will be sent home with a child during the school year. Donate online or by check – either way will make a difference. Give today
- Advocate: You have a voice. Use it! Contact your senators and representatives and tell them to support programs that fight food insecurity in our state – such as Farms to Food Banks, SNAP, TEFAP. You can also help create support by having conversations with family and friends about hunger and how to get involved.
