REALTOR® Association of Southern Kentucky again hosts 3-day food drive and fundraising event

Now in its 10th year, this event has raised funds for more than 3 million servings of food

Bowling Green, Ky. – Together in partnership with Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH), the REALTOR® Association of Southern Kentucky is again hosting a fundraising event to bring awareness and fight hunger in southern Kentucky. Now in its 10th year, REALTORS® Hope for Hunger, led by members of REALTOR® Association of Southern Kentucky (RASK), has donated more than 3.1 million servings of food to communities in Allen, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Simpson and Warren counties.

With the exception of 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, each year has seen REALTORS® and community leaders hosting a three-day food drive and fundraising event – the largest in the area – where participants sleep in tents to bring awareness to hunger, food insecurity and homelessness in southern Kentucky. This event, held Friday, April 23-Sunday, April 25 regardless of weather conditions, is the culmination of months-long fundraising efforts that consist of contributions from business partner sponsorships and REALTOR® member support.

“REALTORS® Hope for Hunger is special to our organization,” said Brooke Vinson, chairperson for the REALTORS® Community Service Committee. “We have hosted this event for a decade and will continue for years to come. Through it we have been able to donate more than 3 million servings of food to children and families facing food insecurity in southern Kentucky.”

Funds collected previous to and during the three-day event will go to purchase food that, along with food donated during the drive, will be allocated to school resource centers in southern Kentucky. Family Resource Coordinators will then distribute the food to children who face food insecurity in their area.

“Nearly one in five children in our 42-county service area will face food insecurity,” said Jamie Sizemore, Executive Director of FAKH. “That’s why this partnership with REALTORS® Hope for Hunger is so important. They continue to help meet the needs of these families with school-age children who have been hit the hardest during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are grateful for their efforts.”

To support the efforts of REALTORS® Hope for Hunger, bring donated items and/or funds to Campbell Lane between FirstBank and Trees N Trends in Bowling Green during the three-day event, beginning the morning of Friday, April 23 through Sunday evening, April 25.
