Kentucky National Guard Activated to Help Food Banks

The Kentucky National Guard have been activated by Governor Andy Beshear to the food banks in Kentucky, including Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH).

The duties for the Kentucky National Guard beginning April 6, 2020 will include sorting, boxing, and distributing donated non-perishable food items. These food items are packed for the various hunger relief programs of FAKH, including BackPack program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) for seniors, and TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) and distributed in FAKH’s service area of 42 central, south central, and western counties in Kentucky.

“The National Guard members will assist Kentucky’s food banks by sorting and packing food into bags and boxes and distributing those through no-touch food distributors.” said Governor Andy Beshear.
