Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland is urgently seeking volunteers to deliver Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) boxes to homebound Hardin County seniors.
“We know we can count on the community to support us when needed, so we are again putting out the call for assistance,” said Jamie Sizemore, FAKH executive director. “These particular seniors receiving CSFP boxes are homebound due to medical conditions or lack of transportation and so must have their monthly food boxes delivered.”
CSFP boxes are for seniors 60 or older who meet specific income requirements. Once a month they receive a pre-packed box of non-perishable foods and a block of perishable cheese. Hardin County has about 50 seniors on the CSFP program, and deliveries will be divided up into routes:
- Radcliff
- Elizabethtown
- Cecilia/Howe Valley
- Glendale/Sonora/Upton
- Eastview
- Rineyville
Volunteers may select one or more route. Boxes will be at FAKH’s main warehouse, 313 Peterson Dr., Elizabethtown. They can be picked up any business day the third week of each month during daytime hours, and must be delivered on the same day due to the perishable cheese. First week of delivery is July 19-23.
If you or your organization are interested in delivering, please email Melissa Neary, volunteer coordinator, at mneary@feedamerica.com or call 270-735-1407. Provide your name, organization name, phone number, email address and area that you are willing to provide monthly delivery.
