At Logan County Good Samaritan, Executive Director Denise McDonald sees a growing reality many don’t expect. Hunger isn’t just a struggle for those out of work. It’s also hitting families who are working hard every day.
For neighbors like Rose, who worked for an auto part factory, that reality came after becoming disabled.
“I used to make over a thousand dollars a week, and now I only clear $1,800 a month,” she shared. “I don’t qualify for SNAP, so this pantry helps me get the things I need.”
The agency has also been a step up for neighbors like Courtney, a mom of four making ends meet.
“With six of us, groceries add up fast,” she said. “This little bit of help makes a big difference. When times were dark, the pantry helped us get through and now I’m back on my feet with a new job.”
Rose and Courtney are just a few of the neighbors Logan County Good Samaritan serves. From seniors on limited income to working parents getting out of a tough spot, the agency is there to help with support from FAKH.
“When you give to Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland,” Denise said, “you’re not only supporting them, but you are supporting local food banks like us.”
Because sometimes, even the hardest-working families need someone to lean on, and they can rely on the network supported by Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland.
