Healthy Food, Healthy Communities: Serving Hart County with Heart

In Munfordville, Kentucky, FAKH agency partner From the Abundance of the Hart has been a lifeline for neighbors for more than two decades.

“We’ve been hosting this distribution since July of 2000,” said Pastor Phillip Trent, President of From the Abundance of the Hart food pantry. “On a single day distribution, we serve about 480 families, and another 20 to 30 come by the church to pick up commodities as well.”

Each month, families receive fresh produce and pantry staples. “Today we’re giving green beans, pinto beans, spinach, chicken, plums, nectarines, peaches, apples, and even squash,” Pastor Trent explained. “I think we’re healthier in Hart County today because of the food bank program and the types of foods that we put in their hands.”

For many families, that food makes a critical difference. “My husband and I are on a limited income,” shared one neighbor. “A lot of what we get goes for copays and groceries and other bills. It really helps, even though it’s just once a month.”

Pastor Trent knows the importance of that support: “People in a food deficit have to make choices between medicine or food, or between different products they need. But we are trying our best to help people as best we can.”

At FAKH, we’re proud to stand alongside our agency partners like From the Abundance of the Hart, who put compassion into action every day, ensuring neighbors have access to healthy, nourishing food, close to home.
