Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, reflection, and togetherness—a season to gather with loved ones and share a warm meal. But for many families across Kentucky, rising grocery costs have turned this cherished tradition into a source of stress and uncertainty.
This year, we worked with agency partners across our region to distribute 3,000 holiday food boxes to neighbors like Amanda.
This is Amanda’s second Thanksgiving without her husband, who passed away two years ago. Her family feels his absence deeply during the holidays—he was the one who deep-fried their turkey and helped prepare sides like macaroni and cheese and stuffing. Now, with the support of FAKH’s agency partner, Morgantown Mission in Butler County, Amanda and her children receive a Thanksgiving meal box each year. This small gesture allows them the space to grieve and reflect without the added worry of how they’ll put food on the table.
Amanda’s story is just one of many. Hannah, a mother of two small children, also relies on these resources to bring Thanksgiving to life for her family.
