Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH) is taking a major step forward in its mission to combat hunger across central and western Kentucky. This year, the organization will open a brand-new hub facility in Bowling Green, a move designed to better serve families facing food insecurity throughout the region.
The announcement comes as FAKH prepares to host a special Hunger Action Day event on September 9 at the new facility. This event will offer the community an early glimpse into the positive impact the expansion will bring.
Located at 182 Ambassador Drive, the 12,000-square-foot warehouse will play a crucial role in supporting FAKH’s efforts to gather and distribute food across its 42-county service area. The Bowling Green hub will work alongside the existing Volunteer Center and Distribution Center in Elizabethtown, creating a stronger network and expanding the reach of vital resources.
“This new facility isn’t just about more space,” said Laura Hagan, FAKH board chair. “It’s about providing more meals, more hope, and more opportunities to stand alongside our neighbors who need help. This expansion is the next step in FAKH’s commitment to making sure no Kentuckian ever has to wonder where their next meal will come from.”
For the region FAKH serves, the need is great, with one in six individuals in the service region facing food insecurity. FAKH collaborates with over 200 agency partners to distribute food to neighbors in need. In fiscal year 2025, 20.5 million pounds of food was distributed through FAKH, equating to 17 million meals for Kentuckians- enough to fill 455 standard semi truck trailers.
Made possible through a grant supporting expanded food rescue efforts, the facility will strengthen FAKH’s partnerships with regional retailers to reduce food waste and distribute more fresh food more frequently to neighbors in need. In fiscal year 2025, and a total of 5.4 million pounds of food was rescued and redistributed.
“There are 21,830 individuals facing food insecurity in Warren County alone- including 6,400 children,” said FAKH executive director Charles Dennis. “ This new hub allows us to better reach families in this community and others across our region as we work to rescue and redistribute food that no longer meets retail standards, but is still safe for consumption.”
Dennis also reassured the community that the Bowling Green expansion will complement, not replace, existing operations.
“Elizabethtown will always be the heart of our operations; this expansion into Bowling Green is simply a way to make a greater impact,” he said. “Our operations in Elizabethtown remain vital to everything we do.”
With this expansion, Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland is poised to make an even greater difference in the fight against hunger — bringing more meals, more hope, and more support to the families who need it most.
