Feeding Families: Summer Programs

Summer is a season for backyard cookouts, family vacations, and making memories. But for many households, it can also mean higher grocery bills and added pressure on the family budget. Through our summer feeding programs and mobile distributions, we work with our agency partners to provide meals and food assistance that help families stay nourished all season long.

Last year, thousands of families across Kentucky’s Heartland turned to these programs for support. This summer, we need our community to help keep them going. Because food is what we do. And community is who we are.

Hunger can affect health, development, and well-being.
Some common effects include:

Weakened immune system
Deficiencies in vitamins like A, C, and zinc make it harder for the body to fight off illness, so people facing hunger may get sick more often.
Stunted growth or development
Chronic lack of protein, iron, and other key nutrients in childhood can permanently affect physical growth and brain development.
Mental and Emotional strain
Chronic hunger can cause stress, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty concentrating, making every day tasks feel impossible.
