Spring 2017 Give a Day for Hunger

GADH

We are excited to partner with United Way of Central Kentucky, HealthSouth Regional Lakeview Hospital, St. James School Regional students, and other community members again this spring for our Give a Day for Hunger event.  The purpose of this event is to fill bags full of food for children living in poverty across Central Kentucky to ensure they have something to eat while school is not in session. The Give a Day for Hunger event originated from a young St. James student, Nate Jarboe, that instead of receiving gifts for his birthday, he wanted to make a difference in his community by making sure that students who receive food from the BackPack Program wouldn’t go hungry over school breaks.

This past fall, a record-setting number of volunteers served to ensure no child in our region went hungry over fall and Christmas breaks. More than 627 volunteers served 1,043 hours, a value of more than $22,000. With additional funding provided by Give 270, the program expanded from its original roots in Hardin County to include Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, and Meade Counties. More than 8,200 backpack bags were prepared, impacting 1,149 children.
